THE CAXTON PRESS has long been dedicated to being as clean and green as possible. We choose to make a difference, not only with the highest quality print, but also through ecologically friendly production. Over the years we have worked consistently to reduce our environmental footprint:

  • We were one of the earliest Christchurch companies to earn attention from the Christchurch City Council’s TargetZero programme for our good environmental practices.
  • We have reduced our landfill waste by 80% over the past two years by recycling all offcut paper, cardboard, aluminium printing plates, plastic bottles and plastic wrap from pallets. We offer non-recycleable dry waste to the Recovered Materials Foundation and Creative Junk for public availability; all other dry waste goes to EnviroWaste for further sorting of recyclable material. Less than 5% of our waste would now go to landfill.
  • Our newest printing press makes use of the latest technologies to reduce paper and chemical waste, energy consumption and even noise.
  • We run inks containing soy oil.
  • We prefer paper from sustainably grown fibre.
  • We use water-miscible printing and platemaking chemicals.
  • We use energy-saving lightbulbs wherever possible and turn off all workstation
    computers overnight.

Although the earthquakes of September 2010 and February 2011 caused significant damage to our building and disruption to our business, we continue to honour our commitment to being a responsible, earth-friendly business, and endeavour to find new ways in which we can continue to improve our environmental record.
